KayLeigh’s Lipstick Diaries Reviews Rimmel’s Lasting Finish Lipstick

Welcome to the first edition of KayLeigh’s Lipstick Diaries, a fabulously fun and unconventional way to talk about my obsession with lipstick and review some great brands. Here at LiWBF, we’re excited to take the blog in this new direction as we’re all beauty enthusiasts.

I’ve always wanted to try Rimmel’s makeup products. Especially after reading reviews which stated how much the quality of the product has evolved throughout the years, aka decades. Rimmel’s story started a long time ago.  Like back in 1820! Seriously. There’s something to be said about a cosmetics company that has stick-with-it power that way. Rimmel uses supermodel Kate Moss as their “face”. I’m a huge Kate Moss fan. And she looks incredible at 40. You can read all about Rimmel’s founding story on this page.

Today’s review/diary entry involves a gorgeous nude color I stumbled up on while seeking the perfectly affordable long-lasting lipstick for a holiday party I’d planned to attend. I’m happy to say that Rimmel’s Lasting Finish Lipstick both impressed and amazed me. The test color of the day was called Amethyst Shimmer, a gorgeous matte shade that truly rocked when paired up with my casual Friday look.

Let’s take a walk through the day.

6:00 a.m. – I’m super excited about my new find and want to put it through KayLeigh’s GirlBoss Lipstick test ASAP! The holiday party’s going to happen in 24hours, and I don’t have time to do a heck of a lot of research. So what to do? Well, I apply the lipstick as soon as my feet hit the floor on Friday morning at 6:15am.

Keep in mind that the first lipstick application of the day always sets the tone for how well your color will last. This holds true for all brands. Start with a clean, dry lip. As soon as I applied the lipstick, I knew this was going to be a great day. I can always tell if a lipstick is going to give me Crusty the Crab dry lips as soon as the product touches my skin. No kidding. This wasn’t the case with Rimmel. The application went smoothly. Happy dance!

6:15a.m. – First Application goes on. Feels nice and smooth, and I don’t need a lot.

6:45a.m. – Lipstick made it through a huge coffee (aka viente at Starbucks). I’m truly impressed.

8:00a.m. – First application’s still going strong. However, I’m in the mood for an Egg White Delight (don’t try this at home or while dieting). I’m being bad. But sometimes being bad is so good. Plus, there’s nothing like a bit of grease to test a lipstick’s staying power.

9:15a.m. – I’ve eaten the bad-for-me breakfast. I’m going to do extra sessions of Yoga w/Adrienne over the upcoming weekend so I can make up for my slip up. However, Rimmel’s lipstick has now made it through a sandwich, a hashbrown, and a jug of sweet tea. Oh yeah, and the viente-sized coffee too.

9:30a.m. – I apply a small streak of color on the bottom lip. Not because I need to… I just love vibrant lip color. Plus, I didn’t wear any eye makeup so my lips would stand out. The nude eye-vibrant lip look went well with the super busy shirt I wore that day.

12:00p.m. – It’s lunchtime (hour six) and my lips aren’t dry or cracking. I’m super impressed. I’ve licked my lips several times and the color still holds strong. Some of the tubes I paid 3 times as much for didn’t hold up as well as this one by the time the sixth hour had rolled around.

The final test is coming up though… Lunch!

1:30p.m. – At this point, I’ve gone 7hrs with Rimmel’s Lasting Finish lipstick and am very happy with the results. Although I had to reapply a sliver of color on the bottom lip after lunch, the top lip held up well. By the end of the day, I had a touch of flaky lips.

However, I have a bad habit of chewing the skin on my bottom lip so that could very well have been the culprit. Also, I didn’t condition my lips before applying the lipstick. I would highly suggest using Rimmel’s conditioning lip balm before applying the lipstick. The stuff has a magic potion that softens the lips without smearing the lipstick job. Kate Moss designed the lip balm, and as a supermodel, I’m sure she knows her stuff.

4:00p.m. – Going home time. Lipstick looks great. I don’t need to reapply anything. Time to go hang out with friends and have a couple of drinks.

8:00p.m. – I’m back home and in sweats. As you can see (please excuse bad selfie photo), the lipstick held up rather well. The next morning, I went out and bought several shades before settling on Chocolate shimmer as my holiday party vixen shade. Wink! Wink!

Verdict… Good value for the price of the lipstick, but not the most rugged long-wear lipstick out there. However, my lips didn’t dry out, and Kate Moss’s color selection rocks the house.

Again, make sure you buy the lip conditioner and use it before applying the lipstick. I had no flaking after performing this test again the next day, even though the color didn’t last as long with the conditioner. You decide what means the most to you… Lasting color or moist lips.
