The Power Of Me Bejeweled Gel Nail Tutorial

Sometime shortly after Valentine’s Day, I start feeling the first traces of spring fever. Along with that sensation comes the desire to pull out my pink nail polish stash. If you would like to see the stash of someone who’s obsessed with the color pink then look no further than my polish collection. Black might be my happy color, but pink has always and will forever make me feel powerful.

Have you ever put on a new outfit and then walked into a room full of people and had all eyes turn toward you. Felt great, didn’t it? All that time and effort you spent pounding the pavement of your favorite store(s) paid off big time. You became the “it” girl of the moment, right? A badass in a new suit or dress or pair of jeans that must be made of magical fabric. Chances are you bought that outfit based on three criteria: 1) overall appearance 2) fit and 3) style factor… aka elements of It Girl power.

This weekend, I want to help bring a stylish tutorial that shows you how to harness the power of your personality as you move throughout each day. And nope, this isn’t a new outfit, but instead, I’ll be showing you how to make a gorgeous set of embellished nails. The secret to confidence and tapping into the power within is to constantly be aware of the person inside us. Some folks like to call this living in the moment.

I firmly believe that focusing on the strength of our personalities will lift us higher than any course can ever do. Believe in you and the world will open its many hidden doors, the ones that lead to amazing opportunities. What better way to cherish those aspects of life we hold dear than to put them inside our own magical charm?

For this tutorial, you will take elements of the things that make you feel most powerful and make a symbol of that dynamism to help carry you through your day.

Things You Will Need:

1. Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Nail Polish

2. Nail Art Decal Kit by Kiss

3. Glitter Polish

4. Top coat Sally Hansen
5. Kiss Top Coat

1. Clean your nails.

Even if you’ve already removed the nail polish then you’ll still need to make sure the nail bed is free of debris. This really does make a difference in making sure your gel nails last longer than five days.

2. Plan your design.

For my nails, I wanted a black and white theme to go along with the gorgeous pink. You can change the base to whatever color you like but make sure you coordinate the colors of the glitter and jewels to go along with the nail polish. Planning your design in advance also allows you to add the decals and things before the nail polish dries too much.

3. Apply the base coat.

Make sure to use even strokes with the gel nail polish. Allow the polish to dry when touched. Add the second coat of nail polish. Concentrating on one hand at a time allows you to get all the design elements in one place before your nail polish dries up.

4. Add the decals.

Now comes the fun part. Add the stickers you set aside at the beginning of the tutorial. An alternative to pre-designed decals would be to paint your own doodles and things. For the artsy craft girls out there, this would be the place where you’d add that step.

5. Add the jewels.

Apply a small dot of nail glue on to the back of the jewel. Use the handy little tools that come with the Kiss Nail Art Kit to secure your jewels in place. An alternate way to handle this step would be to dab a small drop of glue on the nail bed first and add the jewel second.

Either way, make sure you follow and finish step four before taking on the jewels in case a drop of stray glue hardens before you get around to adding decals. It’s easier to fix or cover a small lump after you’ve already added the decals.

6. Add the glitter.

I’ll admit, I cheated on this one. In our first DIY mermaid nail tutorial, I used a paintbrush to add an elaborate mixture of glitter to create a sea effect. Thanks to Sally Hansen, I was able to use a specially prepared mixture that contained a gorgeous halo effect to complete the second mermaid nail tutorial. If you’re not a fan of glitter and all the necessary evil that comes along with removing it then you can totally skip this step. The decals and nail jewels will look just as gorgeous without the glitter.  Time to go back and repeat steps four through six on the next hand.

7. Seal the design.

Add one layer of the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Nail top coat to your nails. Allow drying to touch. Go back and add one extra layer of the Kiss top coat and allow everything to dry thoroughly before going near water or anything that will cause an extreme change in temperature. Gel manicures take up to around 24 hours to fully dry.
