Nope! This 2015 movie list isn’t only about Fifty Shades of Grey. If I had to pick a theme for this year’s list, then I’d say 2015 is the year of anything goes.
However, leading the list of the most yummy and highly anticipated flicks this year happens to be…
1. Fifty Shades of Gray (2/13/15) – Right there at number one on the list. (Don’t be be rolling your eyeballs at me, now). However, there is more to my eagerness to see the former Sheriff of Once (aka Jamie Dornan) taking on what he has described as the biggest role of his life.
The author of this series, E.L. James, is one of my Facebook friends. There’s like this cult among us indie authors, or at least it used to be that way. To see one of indies succeed by rising to the status E.L. has managed to do gives the rest of us hope. So while I’m drooling over Jamie’s abs with my sissy, then I’ll also be experiencing a bona-fide result of the publishing revolution that I have been an active part of ushering into our lives.

2. Crimson Peak (10/16/15) – One word… Hiddleston… as in, the actor who plays Loki in the Marvel movies. Did I also mention this is a Gothic romance? Yeah buddy!
And I cannot wait to see Charlie Hunnam. I felt placing this movie right after Fifty Shades was appropriate given the controversy that occurred after Charlie stepped down from the role of Christian Grey, paving the way for Jamie Dornan to step in. To be quite honest, I’m looking just as forward to Crimson Peak, if not more so than I am Fifty Shades.
Old haunted houses, ghosts, great actors and an October release date… what more can a lover of the supernatural ask for?
3. The Avengers 2 – Age of Ultron (5/1/15) – Shhh! Don’t tell my X-men (the nickname I’ve given my son’s because … both their names begin with an ‘X’, of course). Part 1 rocked my socks. Good plot, good action, rocking cast… and Loki. Getting the chance to watch Thor and Captain America in action again doesn’t hurt all that much, either.
What more could a mom turned action hero lover ask for?
4. Jurassic World – My family has been waiting FOREVER! No other series looks half as awesome on the big screen as this one. Plus, the movie comes out on my son’s birthday 6/12/15.
5. The Hunger Games Mockingjay (11/20/15)
Part One was lukewarm, and many reviewers were saying one movie would’ve been sufficient. Yet, I’m still eagerly awaiting the conclusion of this series. Book Three, Suzanne Collins’s most controversial of the trilogy, was my favorite. I can’t wait to see the events I experienced inside the book get played out on the big screen.
6. Star Wars the Force Awakens (12/18/15) ... Although I wasn’t aware it had fallen asleep in the first place. Nevertheless, I’m game. These movies always manage to both surprise and entertain me.
7. Furious 7 (4/3/15) – Even with the loss of our beloved Paul Walker, I’m still planning on watching this one. The producers made the right move by delaying the release date by a year and giving fans adequate time to grieve. This franchise offers the viewer more than just beefcake and squealing tires. The series explores themes of family loyalty and epic friendship in times where both qualities are lacking.
With the exception of Tokyo Drift, the Fast & Furious gurus never disappoint, even while I still sometimes find myself wondering how I wound up obsessively falling in love with a franchise that revolves around Nos and muscle cars. This one sits at the very top of my list.
8. Frankenstein (10/2/15) – As long as we don’t get another post apocalyptic, mumbo jumbo of a mess the way we did with that Aaron Eckhart version last year, them I’m totally game. I always love a good Frankenstein movie, especially when it’s based on Mary Shelley novel. Oh, and Daniel Radcliffe (the hunchback) and James McAvoy (Dr. Frankenstein) being in the cast doesn’t hurt either.
9. Maze Runner: the Scorch Trials (9/18/15) – Part one was surprisingly good. I’d read book one, the Maze Runner, and enjoyed the story. I haven’t finished the rest of the series yet, so I may do so before the movie releases in September.
10. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon the Green Legend (8/28/15) Part 1 was awesome! However, we won’t mention that B-rated version of part 2. You know, the one that was originally released shortly after the first movie.
Yet, who can forget the lush scenery where Zhang ZiYi and Chow Yun Fat floated through the air as they fought. The movie was literally live Chinese sword play poetry in motion. I’m looking forward to experiencing more of this. No wait! I’m obsessively hanging on the moment when I get to revisit this Asian fantasy world.
Michelle Yeoh returns in the cast for this official sequel. Guess I’ll need to make sure I have a good pair of glasses ready for reading those subtitles.
Honorable Mentions:
Terminator Genesis -Yeah, I’m curious. My family generally enjoys this franchise. And the Arnold (the real actor and not the big fake CGI one) gets the chance to recite his classic line, yet again.
Poltergeist – I’m on the fence with this one. Modern day remakes don’t always turn out so well. **see the 1998 Psycho remake for clarification**
Insidious Chapter 3 – I’m still thinking Chapter 2 would’ve been a good place to stop, yet I did enjoy the first two movies. I’ll admit I’m curious about this one but not hanging on the proposed October release date.
The Divergent Series: Insurgent – Book 3 is responsible for the second installment’s downgrade to honorable mention. I won’t go there, because I’m still trying to recover from the shock of reading the story.
Which movies are you looking forward to seeing in 2015?
I’m more into comedies personally, but I am interested in seeing the feedback that Fifty Shades of Grey gets! I doubt I’ll go and see it seeing as I have a distaste for it for various reasons, but I am intrigued by what people have to say about it and what people will say about it. I am, however, impressed that the author achieved such great success with what began as fan fiction!
Exactly my thoughts Maddie. I’m more in support of the movie because of EL James’s mega success. I want to support a fellow indie author turned superstar. However, as you can probably tell from the rest of my choices, I’m not all that much into romantic movies anyway. LoL
Frankenstein is going to be a good one! And I had no idea they were making ANOTHER fast and furious. I think those movies are old and too drawn out. I am not a fan. But yes, Star Wars is going to be an event. I can see people dressing up to see it. There is such a cult following with that movie. I hope it is good. I will be sure to watch it.
The F&F franchise is definitely cult based. Each sequel out grosses the previous one. However, they’re not for everyone. I didn’t intentionally become a fan, but as the mother of two boys it was bound to happen sooner or later, I guess. LoL
I’ve got different taste to you here, I’m not into Sci-fi or action movies at all. I am really keen to see the film Wild, the drama with Reese Witherspoon – I think i will take hubby with me for his birthday night out.
I watched the film Labor Day last night on DVD, with Kate Winslett – that’s a good one for the romantics out there.
And this is why I love & appreciate my girliefriends! They help bring me back “down to earth” when I get on my sci-fi kick. lol
