A Fashion Story… Jeans Under My Dress!
Welcome to Live Well… Be Fabulous’s first edition of A Fashion Story. During these segments we will explore edgy trends and the impact these daring ventures has on the people around us.
Okay, so when I first heard about this trend of wearing blue jeans underneath your summer/fall dresses, I found myself giving many people the raised left eyebrow. Shortly afterward, I started raking through a few of my favorite fashion bloggers’ cyber homes. Whoa and behold, what did I see? Dresses over jeans galore!
I have to admit. My curiosity got the better of me. After rolling through about 100 blogs, I finally decided that maybe this trend wasn’t so bad. I mean, skinny jeans and slip dresses are staple items in my closet. Why not find a way to continue wearing my favorite items throughout the cooler months? Still, I couldn’t help but to wonder what my fellow fashionistas and fashionistos would think. So, I tested the waters a bit. This was also a great time to try Pantone’s 2016 Color of the Year (which is actually a combination of two hues) Rose Quartz and Serenity.
My photographer and I headed out to Southpoint Mall, a favorite stomping ground and source of the many unique wall textures you find in my fashion posts. It was close to 80 degrees on this particular day, so it was super easy to pull off this outfit.
Created as part of a collaboration between Live Well… Be Fabulous and the Dressin Group, this slip dress paired well with my favorite pair of Express skinny jeans. What was an extra bonus? The outfit has both hues in Pantone’s color(s) of the year: Rose Quartz and Serenity.
To successfully rock this trend, you should consider two things: 1) your current style and 2) the colors/texture of the slip dress. For example, in
Caught Up in the Swirl, I pair a super feminine off white slip dress with a pair of black leggings. I love leggings, so I intend to do an entire post on the many ways to wear the staple item of the gods. I’m exaggerating a bit, but you get my point. LOL Since leggings are a staple in my wardrobe, I found wearing a pair with my super cute slip dress featured in that post totally comfy and natural. Go with what makes you feel comfortable.
At first, I wasn’t excited about the split sleeves in this dress. However, I received a TON of compliments throughout our shopping ventures and soon fell in love with this easy, breezy romantic look first donned by the queen of fashionistas, Jennifer Lopez!
For this post however, we’re exploring ways to wear our jeans underneath our slip dresses. I was able to cheat, because I chose to pair a beautiful rose-colored dress with a pair of light-colored jeans. Well, the Pantone gurus have already told us that this combination works well in their choice for the 2016 “color(s)” of the year. Wear dark-colored jeans with black/brown/dark gray slip dresses. I recently tried doing so and loved the results. Pics will follow soon.
In the following photo of me standing inside Urban Outfitters, I chose a floral scheme in the dress I tried on. (P.S. And yes, I bought the dress after snapping selfies inside the dressing room… lol). I paired it with the Express jeans from the other pics of this week’s featured outfit and it worked beautifully.
However, I’ll be saving this baby for spring. It’s gorgeous, isn’t it?
Now you have some ideas on how to rock the dress over jeans trend. This style won’t work for everyone, but if you decide to try it then use the tips & photos in this article to own the style.

I’ve been seeing so much about the new Pantone colors, and I love the way your dress looks! I have to admit, a dress over jeans isn’t really my style, but I like seeing others rock it! Also, that dress from UO is really cute! I don’t shop there a lot because they’re crazy expensive, but they have amazing clothes!
Hope you have a great rest of the week, KaSonndra!

Hi Sam,
I totally understand. I usually shop UO’s sales because they’re so great when they have them. LoL This dress will probably be featured in one of my Thrifty Deals and Frugal Steals segments. Thanks so much for stopping by today.

I actually really like the ‘jeans under dress’ trend! See it quite a lot here in the UK. 🙂 It works just as well with leggings, I think! Really loving your outfit, dear, that pink dress is so feminine and cute, and I can’t believe it’s only six dollars! Thank you for sharing, hope you have a lovely weekend. x

Thank you Gabrielle for taking the time to stop by and show comment love. I’ll see you soon! 😀
I think it looks fabulous! Frankly, I find most dresses to be too short today, so I usually wear them as tunics over leggings. I’ve never tried wearing them over skinny jeans though, but after seeing this post…I will!
Yay! So glad you liked the idea. Anyone can wear this look! Please let us know what you did so we can stop by and say hi!
Great looks! =)
