Welcome to the 2016 Dreaming of Books Giveaway Hop
2016 has arrived and the year is in full swing. The holidays passed so quickly, I’m not even sure I remember what happened during those days. It’s all a blur. However, I’m truly looking forward to experiencing whatever 2016 has in store. I’ll admit, 2015 wasn’t the greatest year for me. In fact, I’d chalk it up to being one of the worst. But we trudged our way through the madness, right? Time to look ahead and get enthused about what the upcoming months has in store for us. Sounds like the perfect moment for a giveaway hop, doesn’t it?
Which brings me to the subjects of this month’s giveaway hop. Once again, I’m excited to be teaming up with Mary Jacobs over at Bookhounds. For this contest, I’ve chosen to highlight a few selections that I plan on using to help motivate me both spiritually and financially. I think the title Dreaming of Books works so well for describing the way we sometimes feel at the beginning of each year. January makes the perfect time to check your reading lists and decide on a few books to tackle, that would be the ones we’ve put off for what might seem like forever.
The three books featured in this list cover aspects of my psyche that make me feel empowered. There’s one fiction book and two nonfiction works. I’m reading through Ruby by Cynthia Bond now and the author’s prose amazes me. I’ll be honest and say, I didn’t think I was going to like this book at first. However, as many reviewers have said, the story sucks you right in and doesn’t let go until you glance at the clock and five or six hours have passed. Review on Ruby to follow shortly.
I read through Mandy Hale’s Single Woman: Life, Love, and a Dash of Sass a couple of years ago. In the plight of starting this year with a bang, I’ve chosen to pull it out and read Mandy’s story again. Don’t let the title fool you. Her advice for living a well-rounded life works for both single and married women as well. Finally, there’s my idol and creative inspiration, Shonda Rhimes, and her witty book called the Year of Yes, something I definitely need to work on saying this year. I haven’t read this one yet, but I already know I’m going to enjoy the story. Shonda’s personality reminds me so very much of my own.
That’s it. Those are the 3 books I’ve been mostly dreaming of reading so far. Since I want my gorgeous readers to feel inspired as well, the winner of this contest will receive your choice of an ebook copy of one book listed above and a $10Amazon gift card so you can buy yourself something cool and motivational to go along with it.
Happy 2016 and good luck in the contest!

You are most welcome Vanessa! And thank you for stopping by. I’ll be stopping by your place again soon. 😀
The Creative Habit by Twyla Tharp. A teacher in college loaned me her personal copy. It deals with developing and approaching practice and creation like a true job. I’d highly recommend it for anyone who is serious about creative tasks, whether it’s dance (like Twyla), music (like me), writing or anything else that requires on-demand creativity.
Wow, Jennifer. This one sounds very intriguing since I too, am a creative person. I am definitely looking into it as the creative muse gets burned out from time to time and needs a bit of inspiration. 😀
I definitely understand the burn out! It can be tough sometimes when you have to push through for the sake of a deadline or just not losing your momentum.
Marie Cardinal – Mots pure le dire
I haven’t read this one, but it has great ratings on Amazon. Books about personal struggle are always my favorite!
Redeeming Love is an amazing book.
Sounds pretty fabulous Melinda!
Definitely The Book of Mormon!
Great choice, Heidi.
The book that inspired me to go into a career in science is A Wrinkle in Time by L’Engle.

Helen Keller: The Story of My Life
What a cool giveaway! Lately I haven’t been reading as often, but the Year of Yes sounds like it would be a good read to start off the year! I’ve been debating about getting Girl Boss by Sophia Amoruso because I’ve been hearing such amazing things about it, but haven’t gotten around to it. Great picks though 🙂

I found This is How by Augusten Burroughs to be inspirational to me. As hilarious and somewhat crude as he is, this book has excellent advice on how to survive the things that life throws at us. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Honestly, nothing is coming to mind, but I did feel good reading Ellen DeGeneres’ books!
Tuesdays with Morrie: Mitch Albom
The Stranger by Albert Camus. One of the rare books that still make me shiver even after years of reading them every time I think about them.
The Bible, definitely.
The Other Side of the Mountain is a great story about hope.
Born Survivors: Three Young Mothers and Their Extraordinary Story of Courage, Defiance, and Hope

The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren
I really can’t think of any
I think one book that had a long-lasting impact on me was Bare Bones Meditation by Joan Tollifson. I read it in grad school in a class called Transformations in Consciousness, and although every book that I read that semester inspired and changed me, I think that one had the most impact and is one that I return to time and time again.
