11 Deep Spring Cleaning Tips to Refresh Your Home Top to Bottom
When spring knocks on the door, it’s time to spruce up your home from top to bottom! Spring cleaning tips aren’t only about decluttering. They also involve washing and scrubbing easy-to-overlook areas. In order to keep the momentum going throughout the entire season, you’ll need to devise a cleaning strategy.
The key to a successful redo of your home is to come up with a plan that allows you to tackle one section of your home at a time. Set aside no less than15-minute increments and no more than an hour to complete each one of the tips in the following list.
Win the cleaning game by easing into an overhaul of your home without getting burned out. We’ve also focused on natural solutions whenever possible.
Here’s a list of spring cleaning tips that will come in handy during the cleaning process. Let’s take a look!
1- Try using an old tube sock dipped in a mix of one part vinegar and one part water to remove dust and dirt from window blinds.
2- You can dust lampshades with a lint roller. For the base use a damp microfiber cloth.
3- Even if you wash your sheets, pillowcases, and blankets on a regular basis, you’ll still have to clean duvets, bed skirts, and mattresses. Use the nozzle of your vacuum to remove dust and dirt, and upholstery cleaner for stains and smells. Natural deodorizers work wonders on areas frequented often by pets.
4- Use a dish brush and soap to get rid of food stains and fingerprints from kitchen cabinets, while pouring a mix of one cup of baking soda and two cups of vinegar down the sink drain for thorough cleaning. Doing so on a regular basis keeps the plumber away. Trust me… I’m speaking from experience on this one.
5- Organize literature. I spent some time using the Marie Kondo method to organize books and purge old copies of magazines a while back. I highly recommend checking out the tips and pointers she suggests.
While Marie’s decluttering method doesn’t work as well for some folks, we found it highly efficient for our 14-year homeowner junk slump. In the meantime, use a magnetic cloth to wipe the tops and spines of books.
6- Computer, tablet, and TV screens get dirty too. A basic coffee filter helps to remove dust and fingerprints from screens. Microfiber cloths such as the ones featured in tip#2 work wonders as well.
7- When it comes to sofas, you have to choose the cleaning product based on the fabric type. There is a wide range of cleaners that removes stains and spots. Whenever possible choose natural cleaners such as this multi-surface cleaner by Puracy. Their cleaner has over 1000 5-star ratings on Amazon.
8- Protect shower curtains and liners from stains, soap scum, and mildew by washing them properly in a machine along with a few bath towels to prevent wrinkling. Use regular detergent with a cup of baking soda and use lukewarm water. Always check to make sure the packaging states that your curtains are machine washable.
9- When it comes to closets, start by vacuuming the floor (for those who have carpet). Otherwise, use a mop and a natural dishwashing liquid to clean the floor. Take out all your clothes and wipe down your shelves with an all-purpose cleaner and a damp rag.
10- Basements need light to prevent mildew and mold. Unscrew the bulbs, wipe the dust off, and clean with a microfiber cloth, so brightness is restored.
11- Attics are often overlooked areas in a home. Thick dust and dirt settle on the objects stored in attics. Wipe everything with a cloth. Use a vacuum to remove cobwebs and clean the floor.
Keep these pointers in mind while spring cleaning. It might seem tedious at first, but a neat and tidy home is certainly worth the effort.
