9 Fabulous Places to Go For Quick Summer Trips When You Need to Breathe
The best of summer’s days surround us. We’re in the midst of blooms galore and butterflies and super-hot temperatures. We’ve taken care of that honey-do list of spring cleaning. Found ourselves fully awake after the winter hibernation blues ended. I don’t know about you but I’m ready to show off some of those cute summer dresses and bathing suits I bought at the annual sales.
What better way to do so than to put those goodies to use on a quick summer trip or a long weekend getaway? So you don’t quite know where to start? No worries. That’s where the list of 9 places to go for quick summer trips that we’ve compiled comes in handy.
Most of the sites we’ve chosen provide easy access into and out of the airports. If you’re the adventurous type like me and live close by then a road trip might be in order. And since there’s not a steady stream of tourists in these locations they make the perfect places to go for quick summer trips when you need to breathe!
1. Asheville North Carolina
What makes it so great? Well, can we say the Biltmore Estate and a scenic expanse known as the Blue Ridge mountains? Asheville contains a host of experiences to go along with the beautiful scenery. The area claims a great deal of Native American history for you to explore as well.
You can find out much more about what this beautiful city has to offer at the Explore Asheville main website.
2. Nashville, TN
What makes it so great? The Grand Ole Opry is just one of the many classic attractions you’ll find nestled among the capital of country music. This city brims with the liveliness of a big city but contains the compact and laid back ease of a southern metropolitan area. A GPS will work well for you in Nashville.
Historical attractions sit all around Nashville. There’s even a full-scale Parthenon in Centennial Park, a massive expanse of southern style gardening to get lost for days inside. This beautiful city was made for weekend summer getaways so enjoy it.
Visit the official website of Nashville for more information on this intriguing city.
3. Atlanta, Ga
The botanical gardens are a must-see. You’re also in the home of the Atlanta Braves so baseball fans unite! Atlanta contains a mixture of culture that’s hard to describe on paper. There’s a mixture of classic tourist attractions such as the Hard Rock Cafe and a growing fashion scene that now attracts the likes of world-famous designers to the city’s many underground and local fashion events.
During our trip, we stayed at a hotel that had once been used as a Pepsi factory during the 1920s. Read the detailed review of the hotel I chose in this article. If you’re a history buff then you’ll love the unique mixture of southern charm and trendy city life that Atlanta offers.
Visit Atlanta’s official website for visitors.
4. Tuscon, AZ
What makes it great? This is one quick getaway that will feel like an adventure in an entirely different world. Yes, it will be hot. And yes, withstanding the heat will be totally worth the trip. Let’s start with the fact that Tucson contains a strip of restaurants that contains 23 miles of the best Mexican food in the United States. I’m already sold. How ’bout you?
To fully explain the allure of Tucson would require an entire article. So we’re going to let the video found on the official website VisitTucson.com demonstrate the reason why we chose this spot to be included on our list of quick summer getaways.

5. Virginia Beach, VA
Have you ever visited the historic wonder known as Virginia Beach? I’ve loved this beach since I can remember. In my humble opinion, this is one of the east coast’s best-kept secrets.
Besides the super clean, well-landscaped coastline, Virginia Beach is home to one of the largest aquariums in the United States. A boardwalk runs along the front of the row of oceanfront hotels. You can walk this 3-mile long scenic view of the Atlantic ocean or you can rent a bike and make it an adventure.
You can visit the official website called Virginia is For Lovers and start planning a wonderful getaway today. Notable attractions include the Cape Henry Lighthouse and Virginia Beach Aquarium.
6. Portland, ME
You’ll notice that many of the suggested cities in this list are located in areas that dump several feet of snow on its citizens during the winter. However, you’ll find a different scenario when visiting these northern beauties during the spring and summer.
Portland is one of these cities. Casco Bay contains historic lighthouses and comes with its own ferry line to help you explore each unique part of the island. A must see and do a trip for those who love the sea.
Maine has a beautiful website Visit Maine dedicated to the numerous attractions to be found throughout the state.
7. Minneapolis, MN
Minneapolis, the twin city of St. Paul, is known for its parks, sculpture gardens, and beautiful lakes. It’s also home to the largest mall in America… the Mall of America. Fashion lovers unite!
However, only the bravest and experienced of travelers should take on this trip during the winter. Minnesota boasts some of the largest snowfalls in the country. That’s why we’ve added this beautiful city to our list of great spring/summer getaways.
This city holds too many attractions to list in a small box. We’ve included the link to the official Visit Minnesota website so you can explore this option for yourself.
8. New Orleans, LA
There have been so many stories and tales from this historically ethereal city. Ravaged by hurricanes back in 2005, New Orleans and its resident set out on the road to recovery. Fast forward to 15 years later and the city once again boasts the intriguing mixture of history and supernatural elements, the things that attract both celebrities and tourists alike from all over the world.
New Orleans’ online travel guide contains full itineraries, a true gift for those who don’t travel a lot. Head on over to Visit New Orleans and plan your trip today.
Tip: Make sure you read reviews when deciding on a place to stay in New Orleans. Some areas are safer than others so do your research. Especially if you’re a female traveling solo and plan to use an Airbnb.
9. Sanibel Island, FL
We always hear about Miami and a few other household Floridian names, right? So it’s only fitting that a lush island paradise sits just off the coast of Florida, waiting to be explored by you. This one intrigued me so greatly (the island contains a gorgeous lighthouse… my latest obsession) that not only did I enjoy writing this blurb but I immediately booked a trip to take as well. This is one of the only spots on this list that I haven’t ventured out to and I’m now looking forward to the trip with eagerness.
