The Better Homes & Garden One Room Challenge Official Post #1

First I’d like to apologize for my lengthy absence from posting. Life caught up with me and I found myself bedridden for a while as I fought dehydration among several other things that the super busy tend to suffer from these days. I’ve also been working hard to finish my latest novel and one other super exciting thing if you haven’t already heard… I’m pursuing my official certification as an Interior Designer. I’ve also officially launched my e-design business, KaSonndra Leigh Designs.

Yes, I’m taking my love of all things home decor and reno related and putting them to use for the RIDQC… Residential Interior Design Qualification. For those of you who don’t know what that means, I’ll be able to source products for my design clients and be recognized as an official designer by the trade industry.

We’ve written tons of articles about home decor here on LiWBF. I’ve remodeled my ranch home by turning it into an Italian style villa and have one major renovation yet to come. The next logical step was to turn my love of all things home related to an official passion. I enrolled in the New York Institute of Art & Design this past June and haven’t looked back since… Which leads me to some pretty fabulous news.

I’m super excited to be participating in the Better Homes and Garden (BHG) One Room Challenge for Fall, 2019. For this project, I’ve chosen to remodel my son’s bedroom. Since he now attends college full time and has chosen to remain at home while doing so, he needs a space that reflects his change of lifestyle. Take a look at these before pictures and you’ll see exactly what I mean.

While he enjoyed the thrill of riding Jack Sparrow’s pirate ship each night and seeing the Kraken rise up out of the sea, my son along with his outdated bedroom required a new design, one that served multiple purposes.

In a few years, my son plans to finish his degree in cybersecurity and will head out into the world of adulthood. His bedroom will become the new guest sanctuary. To make the transition, we had to choose a design that served two purposes: a show of colors that he enjoys to help him relax while studying and plenty of space for his game playing during downtime. I came up with this plan for his new study/bed/game room.

This challenge will be fun for both him and me as we prepare to take on new roles in our lives. As part of the Better Homes and Garden’s One Room Challenge, I’ll be posting updates to the renovation on Wednesdays. I’m excited to start this new journey and can’t wait to share news of my progress with you as we renovate my son’s room by turning it into a multifunctional getaway. Be sure to stop by the BHG One Room Challenge Blog to have a look at the other guests who’ll be participating along with me.

In closing, I’d like for you to keep a few points in mind.
You’re never too old (or too young) to pursue your dreams.
To start a new path in life.
To rock any goal you set your mind to.
Now get out there and be fearless!

Much love
KaSonndra
