The Better Homes & Garden One Room Challenge Official Post #1
First I’d like to apologize for my lengthy absence from posting. Life caught up with me and I found myself bedridden for a while as I fought dehydration among several other things that the super busy tend to suffer from these days. I’ve also been working hard to finish my latest novel and one other super exciting thing if you haven’t already heard… I’m pursuing my official certification as an Interior Designer. I’ve also officially launched my e-design business, KaSonndra Leigh Designs.
I’m super excited to be participating in the Better Homes and Garden (BHG) One Room Challenge for Fall, 2019. For this project, I’ve chosen to remodel my son’s bedroom. Since he now attends college full time and has chosen to remain at home while doing so, he needs a space that reflects his change of lifestyle. Take a look at these before pictures and you’ll see exactly what I mean.
While he enjoyed the thrill of riding Jack Sparrow’s pirate ship each night and seeing the Kraken rise up out of the sea, my son along with his outdated bedroom required a new design, one that served multiple purposes.
In a few years, my son plans to finish his degree in cybersecurity and will head out into the world of adulthood. His bedroom will become the new guest sanctuary. To make the transition, we had to choose a design that served two purposes: a show of colors that he enjoys to help him relax while studying and plenty of space for his game playing during downtime. I came up with this plan for his new study/bed/game room.
Hi Kassondra!
First of all, congrats on pursuing your design degree –it’s wonderful to know that you are doing that..and also congrats on the launch of your edesign business!
Secondly, I am looking forward to following along with your progress each week as you redo your son’s bedroom for the #OneRoomChallenge. It will be fun to see the end result in 6 weeks!
Hi Leslie. Thanks so much for stopping by and for your kind encouragement. Design has always been my heart. I
How exciting! Can’t wait to see what you do in here. I don’t know about your son, but I have one that age and the laundry & smell make a redecorating project even better: those things get “dealt with” in the process. I’m doing my own master bedroom for the ORC, and will follow along with you. Although I found your link in Leslie’s group. 🙂 Good luck!
Hi Crystal. Thanks for stopping by. I cant wait to see what you do next.
Kudos on working on your education for interior design! Excited to see how things progress on this redo! My daughter is a freshman in college and I am thinking about turning her room into a guest room too! While keeping it a home base for her as well!
Hi Lisa. They grow up so fast don’t they? I appreciate you taking the time to stop by.
Great to learn a little about the one room challenge. Love the inspiration that you are never to old to follow your dreams!
Thanks Mary Ann. I try to encourage rather than discourage aa much as possible.
Such an inspiring post!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!! What an achievement. You must be SO excited and happy. And your clients will be too.
Your son’s room is such a great one to transform. I’m doing ORC too. Can’t wait to follow along and see what you do with his room.
I like too how you described it as a room for life transitions for both of you. Congrats!! See you on ORC. Good luck!
Looking forward to following along over the next few weeks! And congratulations on pursuing your passion!
Wonderful! So great to have 2 closets. Can’t see how it all comes out.
Looks like a good time to redo! I redid my son’s room finally to a guest room, several years ago. (He’s 31!) He and his wife now stay there when they come home. 🙂
Time really does fly when we’re not looking doesnt it? Thanks for stopping by.
Bravo! Congratulations, and good luck on the #oneroomchallenge “You’re never too old (or too young) to pursue your dreams.” – so true!
Hi KaSonndra, Love that you are pursuing your dreams and going for the one room challenge! Wishing you the best with it all 🙂
Congratulations on heading back to school. I can’t wait to see your sons room transform in the ORC.
